A fair share! for women artists initiative

Development of an Award to recognize Art Institutions' Efforts

in Implementing Gender Parity

To strengthen the adaptation to contemporary and forward-looking standards of gender parity in art institutions, fair share! is launching a multi-stage, participatory format. This project aims to acknowledge key places and representatives from public and private museums, exhibition spaces, and commercial galleries that demonstrate a commitment to gender-equitable structures and projects, serving as pioneering role models.

In autumn 2024, we will host a two-day workshop, FUTURE LAB 1.0. This event will bring together a team of experts - including representatives from both institutional and commercial art sectors, alongside fair share! activists - to develop preliminary concepts and frameworks for an open-format 'award' of art institutions that champion sustainable gender equity. Discussions will cover requirements, criteria, and current realities, while exploring potential formats for implementation and communication.

Together with all participants, we aim to inspire change, foster empowerment, strengthen inclusion, and set important precedents in the art landscape beyond Berlin.

Future Lab 2.0, involving art institutions and cultural policymakers, is planned for 2025. Our goal is to engage as many stakeholders as possible in developing a framework for fostering more gender-equitable art institutions. The results will be presented in autumn 2025.
